Excerpt: I was at church a lot this weekend. On Saturday night I was in charge of the
slideshow during our first contemporary worship service. There were lots of
people in attendance, which made me feel good. I was pretty nervous to run the
computer. I mean, if I messed up, everyone in the whole church would know it.
People were really nice to me afterwards, except for one lady who didn't like
the music, but I didn't pick the songs so I'm not going to worry about it.

Then, on Sunday our youth...

Faith in Action

Haley, age 16

Excerpt: I attend a Catholic private school, which is weird because I'm a Lutheran. Most of the time it's not a big deal. My friends and teachers are cool with me being a Lutheran. The cool thing about my school is that they require us to serve other people for ten hours each semester. Lots of the other schools in town have special awards for kids who do service projects, but none of them require it.

My service project this week was to serve breakfast to homeless people downtown through the...

Ringing the Bells

Grace, age 15

Excerpt:
My confirmation small group is supposed to do a service project every semester. We decided it would be fun to be a bell ringer outside the mall.

All of us took turns standing next to a big red kettle and rang a little bell. People who came in and out of the mall put some of their money in the kettle. The money goes to the Salvation Army. They use this money to give food and clothing to people who can't afford it. Our group was paid $20 for four hours of ringing. We put that money in the...

Serving at a Homeless Shelter

Cynthia, age 14

Excerpt: Last night I helped serve a meal at a local homeless shelter. I was really nervous because I hadn't done anything like this before. A few other kids and I went there with my youth minister. A bunch of people from my church had donated the food, which we had to carry in.

More than 100 people came through the line. Most of them were men. There was one woman who was pregnant. It made me sad to think that a baby would be born homeless.

Everyone was really nice to us. It had started to turn...

Affirmation of Baptism

Seth, age 13

Excerpt: I got confirmed yesterday. Actually, my pastor says I'm not supposed to call it that.

I think they called it "Affirmation of Baptism" or something like that. Since I don't remember being baptized, I guess it's good that I learn more about baptism now that I'm older.

Yesterday in the worship service, all the kids were wearing white gowns. We had to make promises that we would keep following God and Jesus. A couple of people read a faith statement out loud. I could NEVER do that,...
